- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Pour the melted butter into a 9x13 inch baking dish, ensuring it covers the bottom evenly.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar over the melted butter, spreading it out evenly.
- Arrange the drained pineapple slices on top of the brown sugar mixture. If using, place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple slice.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the cake batter over the arranged pineapple and brown sugar in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving platter.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
