Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 piece Fresh ginger (about 2 inches)
  • 4 cups Water
  • to taste Honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
  • to taste Lemon slices (optional for garnish)

Equipment

  • Medium-sized saucepan
  • Fine mesh strainer

Method

Instructions
  1. Rinse the fresh ginger under cold water to remove any dirt. Using a vegetable peeler or knife, peel the skin off the ginger.
  2. Cut the peeled ginger into thin slices. The thinner the slices, the more intense the flavor will be.
  3. In a medium-sized saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.
  4. Once the water is boiling, add the sliced ginger to the saucepan.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and let the ginger simmer in the water for about 10-15 minutes. The longer you simmer, the stronger the ginger flavor will be.
  6. After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the tea into a teapot or individual cups, discarding the ginger slices.
  7. If desired, add honey or your preferred sweetener to taste. Stir well to combine.
  8. Pour the ginger tea into cups and garnish with lemon slices if using. Enjoy your warm, soothing fresh ginger tea!

Notes

Feel free to adjust the sweetness and add herbs like mint for a different flavor profile.
