  • 1 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup Brown Sugar packed
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
Crisp Topping
  • 1 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1 1/2 cup Brown Sugar packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cup (1 stick) Unsalted Butter cold, cut into small pieces

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss gently to coat.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour, oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple filling.
  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional).

Notes

For a crispier topping, use less brown sugar. You can also add other spices like allspice or cardamom to the filling or topping. Consider using a mix of apple varieties for a more complex flavor profile.
