Instructions
- Wash oranges thoroughly and slice into 1/8-inch thick rounds. Remove seeds.
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Blanch orange slices for 3 minutes to reduce bitterness. Remove and set aside.
- In the same saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, 1 cup water, and a pinch of salt (optional). Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
- Add blanched orange slices to the boiling syrup. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally, until translucent and tender.
- Remove slices and place on a wire rack to cool and drain completely (several hours).
- Melt chocolate in a double boiler or microwave. Stir until smooth.
- Dip each dry orange slice into melted chocolate, ensuring full coverage. Place back on the wire rack to set.
- Allow chocolate to set completely at room temperature before serving or storing in an airtight container.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate. You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the syrup for extra warmth.
